RESUME

Haoquan Wang is a New York-based creative technologist and art director working across real-time 3D, virtual production, and live experience design. Trained at NYU ITP, he brings both technical depth and creative direction to projects that span screen and space.

His work includes directing 3D animation and projection mapping for Cai Guo-Qiang's performance at the Kennedy Center, building virtual fashion campaigns in Unreal Engine, and leading AV system integration for live productions — including Future Store NY popup for Intel. He moves fluidly between concept and execution: from designing a world in Unreal to deploying it on a 150-meter stage.

Haoquan is oriented toward creative leadership, building toward a role where technical fluency and directorial vision work as one.

Interspecies Love Letter: Sky Painting for EARTH to SPACE

3D Animation & Projection Mapping
Kennedy Center, 2025

As the primary 3D artist on Cai Guo-Qiang's large-scale multimedia performance at the Kennedy Center, I designed and produced a 90-second space sequence — depicting satellites, orbital debris, and synchronized light flashes — projected across a 150-meter-wide forest stage alongside live custom fireworks.

The debris flash sequences were frame-accurately timed to the live fireworks, requiring all timing and luminosity decisions to be locked before the performance with no margin for adjustment. The entire sequence was delivered within one week.

The footage has since been archived in Cai Guo-Qiang's official project documentation.

12 Sculptural “Forms”, 12 Starting Points;
No Beginnings, No Ends…

A Conceptual Short For Wenjue Lu’s annual project Collection 2024, titled “Aufhebung”

3D Animation & Renderings
New York, 2025

For Wenjue Lu’s annual collection Aufhebung, I collaborated closely with the designer on the overall creative direction of the project’s video component. Drawing from the collection’s “12 Forms” sculpture series, I created a 3D animation that extends the dialogue between garment-making and sculpture into a digital, spatial medium.

Beyond the visual execution, I co-directed the artistic vision with Wenjue Lu and coordinated with music producer Alan Lecheng Chao, integrating experimental sound design into the piece. This synergy of image and sound crafted a more immersive and multi-sensory experience, reinforcing the collection’s theme of continuous transformation and inspiration.

Dolca Morto

Virtual Production Fashion Lookbook

Virtual production fashion shoot & campaign
New York, 2024

dolca morto is an independent project where I explored how 3D game engines and virtual production can reshape fashion storytelling. I directed and produced a virtual fashion lookbook, designing the environment, motion, and camera language entirely within Unreal Engine.

My role spanned from art direction to technical execution: building digital sets, choreographing garments in motion, and framing them through cinematic sequencing. By treating the lookbook as an immersive world rather than static presentation, the project highlights how emerging media can expand fashion narratives beyond traditional photography and film.

Blue Desert

an experimental short film rendered in Unreal Engine

Experimental storytelling | CGI film
New York, 2024

Blue Desert is an experimental short film exploring the threshold between memory and dream, built entirely within Unreal Engine with motion capture. Co-directed with Michelle Manxue Ma, the film was selected as a Semifinalist in the Alternative/Experimental category at the 2024 Student Academy Awards — among 2,683 submissions from 738 colleges and universities worldwide.

My role spanned the full production pipeline: I led art direction and Unreal Engine environment building, operated the OptiTrack motion capture system, and served as technical director — bridging the gap between the film's poetic vision and its real-time 3D execution.

Light v.

Land Art Installation
Hebei, China 2024

“Light v.” is a series of abstract land art installations. “v.” is the abbreviation for verb. This work aims to discard the artist’s subjective narrative and let the light speak for itself. It transforms the beach into a canvas and the ocean into a backdrop, allowing the audience to freely choose how to observe, interact with, and interpret the piece.
